The Wins & The Challenges

Over the past decade, Kenya has made impressive progress in mental health, including the decriminalization of suicide and the rollout of county-level mental health centers. However, these advances have uncovered critical gaps:

  • Chronic under-resourcing: Long wait times, limited specialists, and inconsistent medication access.
  • Practitioner scarcity: Especially in rural and peri-urban areas.
  • Persistent stigma: Public stigma is decreasing, but personal and cultural stigma prevents early help-seeking.
  • Harmful drop-offs: Donor-driven interventions often collapse when funding stops, leaving communities unsupported.

Learning Together Awareness and Advocacy

Learning Together

We’re expanding our capacity-building efforts to include trauma-informed care, with a goal to train over 1,000 frontline workers across communities in the next two years. We also aim to sponsor 500,000 young people for Mental Health First Aid Training.

Awareness and Advocacy

We plan to launch a fellowship program to nurture emerging mental health advocates, shaping their advocacy and awareness journeys while amplifying the voices of diverse communities.

Building Community Organizational Development

Building Community 

We aim to launch our Banja and Banja Mtaani programs in 16 counties across Kenya, reaching new communities with creative, culturally grounded mental health support.

Organizational Development 

We aim to expand our core team to at least 10 full-time staff members over the next three years, strengthening our internal capacity to support program growth, deepen community partnerships, and sustain long-term impact.
